The Adoption Process
The purpose of pug adoption is to provide a healthy, happy home for the lifetime of the pug. It is not to provide a low-cost pet. We see adoption as a privilege, one that families are selected for based on individual merit- not on a first-come basis. The needs of the pug are most important.
Pug Partners of Nebraska Adoption Policies include:
- PPN requires a home visit of every applicant. Home visits provide a good opportunity for the prospective adopter to ask questions. There is no "pass" or "fail" to a home visit. The information we gather helps us determine which home would be the besto fit for each individual pug.
- PPN cannot guarantee that any pug will be housebroken. Anything an animal enters a new environment it will need to learn where to go potty. We will always assist you if you have concerns about how to potty-train the pug.
- PPN does not make any guarantees of a pug's age.
- PPN will not place a pug into a home with animals that are not altered (unless due to a serious health reason with a note from your veterinarian). You will have to spay and neuter your animals before applying for adoption with PPN.
- PPN does not ship our pugs. We do adopt out of state, but you must be willing to personally pick up the pug from PPN.
Application Process
The first step in the adoption process is completing an adoption application. Our screening process is very extensive and includes a mandatory vet reference, a phone interview, and a home visit. Once this is complete your application will be sent to the adoption coordinator who will review your application and help you decide which pug would be right for your household.
Our adoption fees range from $150-$400 depending on the pug. Adoption fees go to support the pugs (veterinary bills, medicine, food, and other supplies). Absolutely no money is ever paid to volunteers.
Each pug will be spayed or neutered, current on all vaccinations, assessed by a veterinarian and treated for any known medical problems before it is adopted out. The medical records will be faxed to your vet once adoption has occurred.
