Hi! My name is Hazel! I came from a breeder release and was very shy and timid when I first came into foster care in June. With the guidance of my foster Mom and my two foster Chow Chow siblings, I quickly learned what life as a pug is supposed to be like, and I have never looked back!!
I am very sociable. I love every person I meet and enjoy being petted and cuddling on the sofa with my people. At first, I didn’t like to be picked up but I have learned to trust people and now that I know they aren’t going to hurt me, I don’t mind being picked up and even held. I haven’t been around children very much, but I have met a few and have loved them just as much as anyone else. I have not met any cats, but my foster Mom thinks I would be just fine with a cat sibling.
My typical days include laying on the patio in the sunbeam (one of my favorite pastimes), exploring my yard, and chasing the chows when they run in the yard (I was pretty chunky when I first arrived and couldn’t keep up with them but after losing some weight and conditioning, I hold my own very well with them now). I love all treats and am always a member of the clean plate club at mealtime. I play with stuffed toys on my own and play tug of war with the chows.
By the end of the day, I am pretty tuckered out and am happy to go to my crate where I generally sleep at night.
We have several small dogs of family members that visit often and sometimes come and stay for a few days. I really love them! All of us dogs play, rest and eat just fine together.
I walk on a leash fairly well but sometimes I just decide I’m tired of walking and stop. Usually, I can be coaxed into finishing the walk but occasionally I have held out and had to be carried home. I admittedly have not been on a leash a lot because I love the freedom of the fenced in yard, but I certainly have the potential to be a great leash walker with some practice!
I am mostly house trained. My foster Mom said I am the best foster she has ever had with house training. I caught on very quickly by following the chows outside and copying what they did. I still have an occasional accident, but I am doing really well!
I am a very happy girl and love, love, love attention! Although I am 4-5 years old, I am very active and love to play and follow my people and dogs everywhere they go. I can also be very chill and hang out with my people. I really am just about the most perfect pug you could ask for! If you think I might be a good addition to your family, I would love to meet you!!
